The art of spoken word was formerly narration with voice. The Bible narrated onto audio cassette tape or compact disc is considered spoken word. Some of those narrators were regularly nominated for Grammy Awards. In the mid-1900’s the art of spoken word evolved with rhythmic music and was performed in a way that would let the artist and the listeners express themselves openly about purpose, issues, circumstances, lifestyles or whatever.

It is often creatively mixed with music from whatever socio-cultural background the artist is familiar with.
